What Is Judo? | TOP |
Judo is an Olympic and Commonwealth sport that originated from a Japanese martial art. Judo uses throws and holds to defeat your opposition. In a tournament, the winner is the first to score "Ippon" or ten points. However, you do not need to enter in competitions to advance in Judo.
Judo is an excellent competitive sport, but is also ideal for those who would just like the fitness benefits and have a bit of fun. The club fees are also much cheaper than a gym, and you get many personal trainers without the added expense!!

The first thing we teach you is HOW to fall properly so that you don't hurt yourself. This skill is called "breakfalls", and becomes instinct quickly.
What Are The Different Coloured Belts? | TOP |
Levels of achievement in Judo are shown by the different coloured belts. You progress through the belts by means of an examination called a "grading". A grading examination tests a players knowledge and ability to meet National and International standards.
A beginner starts with a white belt. The belts then progress to yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and then black. Black belts also progress in levels known as "Dan". The first black belt is a 1st Dan, then 2nd Dan etc.
